Performance and Features
OTOFIX D1
-
Connectivity: Supports dual-band Wi-Fi (2.4GHz and 5GHz), though updates are slower compared to the TOPDON. The VCI connects reliably and is up-to-date.
-
Diagnostics: Delivers full-system scans, bi-directional control, and over 40 service functions. It’s a solid performer, though advanced features (e.g., online coding) may require a subscription.
-
Battery: Lasts 10-11 hours in active use but drops up to 15% overnight in standby due to Android’s background processes.
-
Usability: AutoVIN is reliable, but the interface feels less snappy than the MUCAR’s.
TOPDON AD900BT
-
Connectivity: Claims 5GHz Wi-Fi support, but testing revealed it’s limited to 2.4GHz—a notable discrepancy. Updates download quickly, but the device constantly reloads data, requiring a stable Wi-Fi connection.
-
Diagnostics: Recognizes vehicle makes (e.g., Audi) but demands manual input of model details for service functions, slowing workflows. It struggles with basic controls (e.g., windows and mirrors) and required 43 post-scan updates, hinting at software instability.
-
Battery: Matches the 10-11 hour runtime of its peers, losing just 2% in 24-hour standby—a strong point.
-
Usability: Offers German-language procedural tips (e.g., clutch valve calibration requirements), but English pop-ups persist despite a German setting. The VCI warning tone and text reminder are handy.
MUCAR V08
-
Connectivity:Limited to 2.4GHz Wi-Fidespite dual-band claims. Updates finish in 20 minutes—faster than the OTOFIX.
-
Diagnostics: Excels with AutoVIN, quick control unit recognition, and reliable service functions. It accurately diagnosed a Golf 6’s oil pressure and clutch wear issues in 1:40 minutes.

$179per year later.
-
-
MUCAR V08: Priced at $500—offers the best all-around package for the cost. 2 years free update, $399 per year later.
-
DollarFix PF8: €469 ($490)—the budget champion with premium performance, but stock is scarce.
Final Verdict
The
OTOFIX D1holds its own with storage and versatility. The TOPDON AD900BT ($500), despite some clever features, disappoints with its bulk, limited storage, and software issues—leading to its return.
MUCAR V08delivers robust diagnostics, efficient memory use, and a practical design for $500. But Mucar often lacks freeze frame data and takes longer to read VIN compared to OTOFIX.
The upgrade cost for the OTOFIX D1 is cheaper than that of the Mucar V08.

Will Autel KM100 Clone Ford ID49 Key via AT100 Super Chip
Is it possible to clone Ford transponder keys withAutel KM100usingAT100 super chip, specifically theID49type, which is commonly found in newer Ford vehicles like the 2021 F-150. While the Autel KM100 supports a wide range of transponders (e.g., ID46, 4D, 4C, and even newer options like 70 and 83), theID49is notably absent from the available cloning options—despite being listed in the device’s menu.
Key Observations:
- ID49 Recognition: The tool successfully reads the ID49 transponder but does not offer a cloning option for it.
- Firmware Updates: Recent updates added support for other transponders (e.g., GM 4A, Volkswagen options), but ID49 remains unsupported.
- Future Possibilities: The mention of "such as” in the device’s menu suggests that ID49 support may be coming in a future update.
Workarounds and Alternatives
For now, users needing to clone or program Ford ID49 keys may need to:
- Wait for Firmware Updates: Autel may release support for ID49 in upcoming updates.
- Use Alternative Tools: Devices like theXhorse Key Tool Maxor Advanced Diagnostics’ T-Code Pro currently support ID49 cloning.
- Manual Programming: For some vehicles, onboard programming (OBP) procedures may still work for adding new keys.
Final Thoughts
The Autel KM100 is a powerful tool, but its lack of ID49 cloning capability is a notable gap—especially for Ford vehicle owners and locksmiths. Keep an eye on Autel’s firmware releases, as this feature could be added soon.

3.Ease of Configuration
- Super ICOM N3: Has amore straightforwardconfiguration process, allowing users to connect via Wi-Fi without needing extensive setup. On a Windows 10 laptop, connecting via USB instantly registers the device in I-Tool Radar with an IP ending in .38 (e.g., 169.254.92.3
. Switching to wireless mode requires minimal setup—just connect to the N3’s Wi-Fi network and enter the password. Tests confirmed that locking and unlocking the device via Easy Connect worked flawlessly after adjusting the IP settings.

- Old BMW ICOM: Requiresmanual IP configuration, and users may face connection delays when switching between devices. The Ethernet-based setup demands more effort. Users must access the laptop’s network adapter settings, right-click the Ethernet properties, and manually set an IPv4 address (e.g., ending in .33 or .45) to match the device. Testing revealed occasional delays or failures in detection, requiring patience or troubleshooting, such as disconnecting and reconnecting power.

4.Performance & Stability
- Super ICOM N3: More stable in operation, with improved firmware that reduces connection dropouts and lag.
- Old BMW ICOM: Can sometimes take longer to establish a connection, and users have reported intermittent connectivity issues.
5.Firmware & Updates

6. Software Compatibility
-
Super ICOM N3:Fully compatible with BMW’s latest diagnostic software (ISTA-D, ISTA-P, E-Sys),the N3 also supports J2534 and DOIP protocols, making it a multi-brand diagnostic tool for vehicles beyond BMW, such as Mercedes-Benz or Volkswagen.the N3 is a versatile all-in-one tool for modern diagnostics. It can even replace an ENET cable for coding tasks, broadening its utility. Its firmware can be updated online via BMW’s official servers, ensuring long-term relevance.
-
Older ICOM A2/A3:Limited to Ethernet and BMW-specific diagnostics, it’s less adaptable to newer vehicles or non-BMW brands, making it a narrower tool in today’s diverse automotive landscape. It lacks native support for J2534 or DOIP, restricting its use to older BMW models with OBDII or earlier diagnostic ports. Firmware updates are possible but less streamlined compared to the N3.
7. Performance and Stability

-
Older ICOM A2/A3:The Ethernet connection worked but was less reliable, with blinking indicators in I-Tool Radar and occasional detection issues. Power cycling or waiting improved connectivity, but this inconsistency could disrupt workflows, especially on time-sensitive tasks.

Practical Insights from Testing
During hands-on testing, the Super ICOM N3 outperformed the older ICOM A2/A3 in ease of use and connectivity. On a Windows 10 laptop, the N3’s USB connection was plug-and-play, requiring only minor IP adjustments in Easy Connect (from .33 to .3
to lock/unlock the device. Its wireless mode was a game-changer, enabling diagnostics without cables after a simple Wi-Fi setup. Conversely, the older ICOM A2/A3 demanded more fiddling—Ethernet IP settings had to be manually aligned (e.g., .45 or .33), and detection wasn’t always immediate, even with power supplied via OBD.
The older model worked reliably once connected, but its dependency on Ethernet and lack of wireless support felt outdated. The Super ICOM N3, with its modern features and stable performance, proved more practical for real-world use, especially for technicians needing flexibility across multiple vehicles and software platforms.
Conclusion
The Super ICOM N3 emerges as the superior choice over the older BMW ICOM A2/A3 for most users. Its USB and wireless connectivity, ease of setup, and broader protocol support make it a forward-looking tool suited for modern BMW diagnostics and beyond. The older ICOM A2/A3, while still functional for legacy BMW models, struggles with cumbersome Ethernet setup and limited versatility, making it less competitive in 2025’s automotive repair landscape.
For professionals or enthusiasts planning to work on a range of BMW vehicles—or even other brands—the Super ICOM N3 is the clear winner. However, if you’re solely maintaining older BMWs and already own an ICOM A2/A3, it may still suffice with some patience. Future testing on cars with E-Sys and ISTA configurations will further highlight the N3’s capabilities, but based on this comparison, it’s a worthy upgrade.
Choosing between the two depends on the user’s needs: if mobility, modern OS compatibility, and wireless connectivity are priorities, theSuper ICOM N3+ Prois the way to go.

How to datalog withAutoTuner
AutoTuner datalogging solution has been designed to be easy to use.
For each supported ECU, we have pre-selected a set of relevant measures from the manufacturer specific datalogging parameters.
What is datalogging?
Datalogging solution collects and records data sent from the car ECU in live.
Data includes major parameters that relate to engine operations such as:
Why datalogging?
Tuning a car without datalogging is like trying to cook a good meal eye-blinded. Indeed, Any tuner cannot tune right without getting precise feedback on how the engine reacts to the updated parameters.
Information obtained thanks to data-logging is crucial to make the perfect tuning file.
Prerequisites :
-
Make sure that your computer is connected to the Internet*
-
Make sure that the OBD cable is connected from AutoTuner tool to the OBD-II port in the car
-
Make sure that the engine is running
-
We highly encourage you to make datalogging on a dyno
*Internet connection is only required to query available measures from the server and to upload the log when the recording is finished. You can use your WiFi network or you can also use your phone’s hotspot.
Main procedure :
-
Plug the OBD cable to the OBD-II port in the vehicle and start engine
-
Find the vehicle you are looking to log using the ECU selection or quick search function
-
Select the "Datalog” method
AutoTuner software will query the available measures for the ECU from the server. As soon as ready, the gauges will appear*

-
Start your dyno run
- To start a log, click on "Record” buttonor press the space bar on the keyboard

*We currently only display 12 gauges but we record more than 12 values. All values will be available when viewing the log online.

How to make a correct dyno run :
-
Cruise in 3rd gear at about 1500-2000 RPM
-
Start the log and immediately press the accelerator to wide open throttle
-
When RPM reach the redline on the car’s dashboard, stop the log
If the concerned car is equipped with automatic gearbox, please put the gearbox in sport mode/manual mode to avoid it to shift gear too quickly (kickdown).
How to use the online tool :
You can consult all the datalogs from your online AutoTuner Administration Interface.
Login to your AutoTuner Adminhereand then click on "My datalogs".
All the datalogs uploaded by a slave tool are also automatically synced with their Master account so the master can easily have access.

How to share your log :
The URL available in your browser address bar is public. It means that you can share this link to anyone whether they are AutoTuner users or not.
A "copy link” button is available at the bottom of the graph. It will simply copy the link to your clipboard so you can paste it anywhere you want.

How to Clone Toyota 4D Transponder with Autel KM100 AT100
In this article, we’ll walk through a real-world example of cloning a Toyota 4D transponder key usingAutel MaxiIM KM100andAT100 super chip.
Step 1: Reading the Original Key
The first step in the cloning process is to read the data from the original Toyota 4D key. Using the Autel KM100, the user connects to the key via Wi-Fi and reads the necessary information. This step is crucial as it ensures that the data from the original key is accurately captured and ready to be transferred to the new chip.

Step 2: Cloning the Key
Once the original key’s data has been read, the next step is to clone it onto theAT100 chip. The user removes the original transponder from the key and replaces it with the new AT100 chip. The Autel KM100 is then used to transfer the data from the original key to the new chip. The process is straightforward, and the tool provides clear feedback once the cloning is complete.

Step 3: Testing the Cloned Key
After the cloning process is complete, it’s time to test the new key. The user inserts the cloned key into a cut key shell and tests it in the vehicle. The original key is also tested to ensure that it still works correctly. This step is essential to verify that the cloning process was successful and that the new key functions as expected.

Step 4: Verifying the Data
To ensure that the cloned key’s data matches the original, the user reads the information from the AT100 chip using the Autel KM100. The tool displays the data, confirming that the cloning process was successful. The user also reads the data from the original key to compare it with the cloned chip, ensuring accuracy.
Conclusion
The combination of the AT100 chip and Autel KM100 offers a reliable and efficient solution for key cloning. In this example, the tools were used to successfully clone a Toyota key, demonstrating their effectiveness and ease of use. Whether you’re working on a Toyota or a more advanced vehicle, this combination provides a powerful solution for key cloning tasks.
