(Solved): BMW 318i yellow check engine light when car is idling

A driver drove me a BMW car, he said he just picked up his BMW 318i a 2010 plate with under 20,000 miles a few weeks ago, since then on 2 occassions when driving the car (and the car drives fine) when he have parked and just let the engine idle for a few mins the yellow check engine light has come on. He moved the car a short distance to see if it had lost power and it seemed fine (wasn't travelling at a great speed). He turned the engine on and off and the warning disappeared and car continues to drive ok.

Then he take our BMW ASAP, I connect the car with BMW ICOM ISID, it was showing my car may have a faulty camshaft sensor but after trying to run the diagnostic machine to the end of its cycle the program kept cutting out before it had fully diagnosed so it didn't go through its full cycle. I think I may have to get the software on my machine checked out, then I asked if he was able to leave the car overnight if he wanted the work completed by tomorrow because it was fine for him to take the car away and book it in at a later date, he said yes since he needed the car for work and over the next few days.

Then several days later at weekend, the driver drove his BMW to me, I install a new sensor to fix this common failure of the fault camshaft sensor, how to install the new sensor, I will make video later and share with you, thank you, wish its case be helpful.

BMW X5 Right rear door keyless entry not working

A driver trail me his BMW X5 2008 year with 55 thousands mileage, he said: its rear door keyless entry not working.

Firstly connect the car and confirm where is the trouble, after test its right rear door keyless entry function all not working, but the other doors keyless entry function is working.

BMW X5 keyless entry function means when the key is within 2m from the door, as long as the driver press the door handle, and the door transmit the sensor signal to the starting system control unit (CA) and Comfort Access System (CAS) by CAN-BUS, then active the sleepy CAS and CA. CA active FBD antenna in the multiple choice merit-based module, meanwhile the activated CA by CAN-BUS sends the signal to the door requesting the antenna in the hand to emit 125kHz key identification radio signals. After the key out of BMW X5 car receives its radio signal, decode and identify it, CA send 868 kHz high-frequency radio Key identification signal to FBD antenna in the multiple choice merit-based module, FBD antenna send the received key identification signal to the radio signal receiver DIV in the multiple choice merit-based module for identification, and send the results to CAS, after successfully verification, CAS send out unlock authorization and notify junction box control unit to execute unlock instruction, the door unlock.

Then I connect BMW ICOM ISID to test BMW X5, and it has no any fault code, according to the above-mentioned controlling principle, I analyze and find out the reasons are as follows: the antenna in the handle of right rear door; the door handle identification device has troubles; circuit trouble exist between door handle and CA or CAS.

After I change the antenna in the right rear door handle, the trouble still exists; after I change the right rear door handle, the trouble still not troubleshoots. Then I check the related circuit gram, and measure the circuit between the door handle to CA or CAS. When I check the connector of the right rear door handle and prepare to connect adapter to measure the circuit signal, I surprisingly find there are 3 lines coming, but the connector only has 2 ports, then I check the related circuit gram, it says there should be 3 lines. Then I make the 3 line skip the connector and directly connect to the door handle, then to test, the right rear door keyless entry function can work.

Troubleshoot trouble: after the connector in the right rear door handle is changed, the trouble is solved.

Reset BMW check engine light with iOBD2 scanner

An illuminated check engine light is one of the most upsetting and annoying auto problems that can happen to a vehicel. When the light comes up, drivers sometimes can reset it by disconnecting their battery and reconnecting it again. However, this may not work for a BMW. To turn off check engine light on a BMW, you may need an iOBD2 BMW scanner, which costs less than 150USD. Below is how to reset BMW check engine light with the OBDII scanner.

1. Plug the iOBD2 scanner to the OBD port under the dashboard. Make sure the connection is alright.
2. Get an iPhone, download a FREE iOBD2 software from app store, and install the software on the iphone.
3. Set your iOBD2 app to diagnose the BMW via Wi-Fi. You can find detailed procedure about this step from this link: http://www.wikihow.com/Use-iOBD2-to-Diagnose-Your-Car.
4. Turn the ignition key to the ON position, open the app and connect the tool with the BMW via Wi-Fi. Do not rush to start the engine now.
5. Diagnose the BMW with your iPhone by reading DTCs and displaying the trouble codes. Your phoen will then display the DTCs the OBDII scanner has detected.
6. Click the "Clear" option to erase the DTCs concerning the ignition system.
7. Check if the check engine light is out. If yes, turn off the ignition and pull out the connector from the port. If no, try to read and clear the fault codes again.
