Repair BMW SME System Management Battery Module with CG100X

The SME module, or System Management Unit, in a BMW is a battery management system (BMS) that controls the high-voltage battery. It monitors the battery’s charging process and health.

If the SME module is faulty, the dealership wants you to replace a new one which takes a long time and is expensive.

There are 3 BMW SME solutions so far!

1. Before resetting, make a backup with "Online ISTA”. Then reset and restore. (By pass ‘tester way’)!

2. If you don’t have an "original SME” then you need an "AOS” tester. Ista online…

3. Manually erase 4 bytes of "crash” data from the "eeprom”. Special note! This doesn’t work every time. It’s located in different places every time!

If the car is 2022 and below, it is "offline”, otherwise all "battery series” are read online.

 

Here we will show how to repair BMW SME module usingCG100X programmer.

This is the SME (System Management Unit) High-Voltage battery cell module.

 

 

Remove and disassemble the SME module.
Remove the 4 screws on the top to open shell.
Disassemble the control interface.
Remove these screws.
Lift the cover.

If the vehicle collides, these two blown fuses will short-circuit.

So we MUSTreplace these two blown fuses before repairing the SME module!!!

This is the BMS module we need to repair.

Disassemble the SME module.
The CPU (Infineon TC275) chip controls the battery data.

We will read and write this module with CG100X.

Run CG100X software, go to BCM function.
Select BMW- SME- I3/I4/IX3-TC175 (read/write).
CG100X will show you the wiring diagram.

Zoom in the diagram and connect module withCG100Xvia pro v2 adapter.

Then read the Dflash data and save.

Send your data to CG engineer or 3rd party resource to modify data.

Then select the modified data and write back to the module.

Wait until the writing chip is completed.

Then reinstall SME module and install to vehicle.

You will also need to program SME module with ISTA in order to work properly.

Autel IM608 Failed to Program 2024 Hyundai Kia New Style Key?

It is a 2024 Hyundia Santa Fe. All keys have lost with active alarm repossession. Completely new designed fob and insert key.

Smartpro, Autel IM608 Pro, OBDSTAR, Zed-full, autopropad all failed. Tried every programmer. None list 2024. New key new system. Tried Kona with the same key. Couldn’t do it.

What programmer to complete the job?

 

 

Tips:

Key is essential. It’s fcc and ic #’s you have to match.

The alarm was not active. You can try removing door lock and actuate the door lock actuator and see if that disarms the alarm, hit or miss with the newer kia/hyundai. Its the same proximity, same security protocol. Might have to try under a different setting or under diag. Should still be a kk12 keyway just different code series. Either C,D or S series.

 

1.Autel

Some managed to work withAutel IM608 II. You have togo through diagnostics instead of IMMOandget the PIN codefrom dealer.

Some reviews:

1). Did a 24 Elantra with the same Key, just need the Pin Code.

2). Did a 24 Tucson same style, pulled pin code and programmed right in, has to be OEM and correct part number. Im 608 pro2.

3). I did a 24 Sorento last week withim508. In the diagnostics menu not immobilizer. Purchased PIN code from 3rd party.

4). Did a 24 Kia Kona. It will not work throw immo you have to go throw diagnostic.

 

 

2.OBDSTAR

Update Hyundai/Kia to the latest software. They add support for 2024 Hyundai/Kia new system. Try to read pin with network connection, if fails, you may need to buy pin.

 

Where to get the Hyundai and Kia security pin code?

There is a guy @Ameer Hasan on facebook who provides Kia & Hyundai Pin codes.

 

3. Using dealer tool. With the dealer software, they aren’t supporting key programming yet through j2534 device until third quarter of 24 according to Hyundai tech site.

 

FYI:

Newer models we had best luck withOBDSTARorVVDI Key Tool Plusif it’s a 8A, 6A chip type. 4A and 47 Autel do great.

How to Program Ford F1-50 2021 Key with Autel APB131

2021 Ford F150 Smart key (all keys lost) is done withAutel IM608andAutel apb131 adapter.

Need to remove BCM and reading the D-flash with xp400 pro and apb131.

BCM location:

The BCM is located on the passenger side at footwell it’s not the easiest thing but it ain’t terrible take you about 15 minutes to get it out.

Where’s this option in Autel IM508/IM608?

Menu path:
Manual by vehicle->then go to Smart key learning->Read D-flash via programmer

You can see the wiring diagram. Reading the d flash not an easy task but if you have the soldering skills it’s very achievable.

Besides, for the one hot connection to that little bitty capacitor it’s actually very easy to solder up.

After reading d-flash data, just learn smart keys.

You can also do it with FDRS. It takes 5 minutes with FDRS. FDRS is like $900 / year.

If some failed on F-150 with active alarm using FDRS, you can try this way with apb131.

The new apb131 adapter is pretty sweet. It adds a whole bunch of support for Volkswagens without removing resistors from the cluster.

Supposedly Consult3+ had server issues so I decided to try doing it manually. I spent a lot of time looking for the HFM module and almost as much time getting it out. (I will find easier ways of pulling it. HFM is on the passenger side).

How to Decode VAG Simos 18.1 IMMO CS Code with OBDSTAR DC706

OBDSTAR DC706adds IMMO data decryption function for VAG VW Audi Skoda Continental SIMOS18.1 TC1791 ECU.

Function:
Read/Write INT eeprom

Read/Write INT flash (BOOT) (Only supportMP001 PROGRAMMER).

IMMO data decryption (DC706 also decrypts IMMO data for Simos 18.1. OBDSTAR has a built-in calculator to calculate CS code for this ECU.)

 

We have already shown how to read Simos 18.1 with DC706 and MP001 in boot mode.

How to Read and Write VAG Simos 18.1 ECU with OBDSTAR DC706?

Read the instructions in red! If you are using obdstar power supply won’t work anyway.

"DO NOT use the power adapter they provide to power the ECU, that is only for charging the tablet.

 

For BENCH & BOOT (workbench) operation, please use a reliable high-power DC regulated power supply (current not less than 5A) to power the ECU.OBDSTAR’s standard power adapter (current 2A) is only used for device charging and is not recommended for ECU. power supply, otherwise communication may fail due to low power of the power adapter!”

 

DC706 decode Simos 18.1 cs code ok.

For example: Audi Simos 18.1 TC1797.

After read INT eeprom and INT flash in boot mode, select IMMO Data Decryption function.

Upload INT eeprom and INT flash data to decode 16 bytes CS code.

The CS code heps obtain sync data for all keys lost programming.

Autel,Launch X431has builti-in MQB2 calculator that will calculate sync data based on CS code from cluster, ECU, TCU and ELV.

It’s an interesting finding. You can get Mercedes Benz all keys lost password withAutel IM608 IIfrom broken remote instead of removing the EIS.

This method only works on fishtail Mercedes keys.

 

For example 1:

2000 s430 w220 all keys lost get password from broken remote. The wiring is on the tablet.

Example 2:

Mercedes add key no problem, get password from broken remote.
