Why choose thiscombination?
If your car has a round BMW 20pin diagnostic port under the hood and pin 15 of that port is populated and has voltage, then an 20 pin to 16pin connector will be required in order to access and code all available modules without issues.
An ADS interface works best with a computer with a true serial port. A modified VAGCOM KKL interface with emulated ignition signal will also provide similar access, however where coding procedures require toggling of the ignition signal, there will be an issue due to the inablility of these interfaces to detect a true ignition signal. How To Change F20 CBS oil interval without changing V.O. with Rheingold

I have made an interesting found regarding change the oil service interval for F series. Despite the success of some, I don’t believe it is necessary to change FA and flash DME to have this interval changed. I believe that Rheingold can do it with less effort, and less risk.

 

My car came with oil service interval defined in the V.O. as 8KP = 8.000 km. However, the CBS was set to 6.000 km (probably, it was changed by the dealer). So, as V.O. remains the same (I read it with esys and is still 8KP), it means one can change the interval without changing the V.O.

 

Some friendssay that with BMW ICOM Rheingold you can simply set the interval with CBS reset.

 

I gave it a try with Rheingold (I have 3.54), and used function CBS RESET UDS as below:

This set my oil interval back to what was specified in the V.O. (8.000 km), however, it didn’t pop up to request which interval is to be applied. So, probably there is some other function that allow to choose this interval.

How to make ISTA-P work on ENET cable for BMW F-series

It’s a good solution to set up BMW ENET cable to work with BMW ICOM ISTA-P software to do ecu programming for BMW F series.

Download BMW ISTA-P Loader V4.8.7 and install it on Windows XP



Plug the BMW ENET(Ethernet to OBD) interface in the car
Set in In ISTA-P
HO-ICOM/ENET direct in VCI Config
In Network Connection - right click in your ENET - properties - TCP/IPv4 - Properties set
IP 169.254.1.1
Subnet Mask 255.255.0.0
Subnet Mask 255.255.0.0


NOTE:

Disable anti virus, firewall & WIFI connection.

Check ENET cable is well connected to car and PC. Turn on ignition and wait for a minute or two.

Start the ISTA P loader.

Click on the "start ENET ICOM emulator button" once. ZGW search will now open.

Enter your cars ZGW IP and click "continue". Then wait for emulator running notifications to appear.

Click on BMW, Mini, or Rolls Royce brand.ISTA/Pwill now launch.

Select ENET in connection manager.

Note: wSTA/P asks for ignition ON/OFF during programming use the KL15 controls located in the notification area of the taskbar (right click on ISTA/P notification icon). Default setting is "ON". Obviously actual car ignition will need to be turned ON/OFF also.

How to choose BMW E and F series Diagnostic Software

The BMW Diagnostic Software will help you troubleshoot the problems that can usually be fixed by the garage which will charge you a tons of $$$. Here I will recommend you several BMW diagnostic software, hope it helps you.

 

--One of them is INPAK+DCAN USB cablewhich mainly works onBMW E-series.

INPA (interpreter fortest procedures) is older factory floordiagnostic software, designed to runtest procedures. It is the easiest tool to use for E series BMW vehicles.With this software you will be able toread / erase errors of all modules, perform tests (turbo etc.), reset adaptations and view live engine data. All you need for E series diagnosis is this software and a K+DCAN cable for BMW coding.

 

--The best and most complete with schematics and lots of tests BMW diagnostic software is BMW ICOM software called Rheingold

Rheingold (akaISTA/D) is current dealershipdiagnostic softwarefor all Exx and Fxx cars.

ISTA/D is the replacement for DISdiagnostic software. Likewise, ISTA/P is the replacement for SSS programming software.

ISTA/P & ISTA/D are designed to be used with an ICOM Interface, and with full ICOM A2+B+C, you can connect to older cars.

You can find versions of ISTA/D with an ICOM Emulator builtin that allows you to use it with anENET Interfacefor Fxx cars and aDCAN Interfacefor Exx cars.


Between the two,Rheingold is simply a better option. It has amodern interface, and is complete in that it does not require additional Test Procedures. You can have ISTA/P & ISTA/D installed on laptop aside INPA, WinKFP, and INPA without any issues.

HOW TO USE BMW INPA:

If you made all the settings according to the instructions (set the port to COM1 and the latency to 1ms) you should see the two black circles in INPA which means you have a connection to the car and you can use the software for diagnostics, adaptations, coding etc. The software that contains INPA has three folders (INPA, NCS EXPERT and EDIABAS). Ediabas is basicly the core that makes all the other software work and NCS EXPERT is used for coding E series cars.

So if you have a connection to the car you can start using it by choosing the chassis and that will bring up a window where you will have to choose the module that you want to perform diagnostics on. Choose any module you want and it will show you the inner corresponding ECU menu where you can read and erase errors and make/erase adaptations.

There is much more to be said about INPA, I guess a complete guide would take months to make but once you get used to it it’s really easy to use. Although the down side is that because the latest data files are available only in German, most of the software inner menus will be in German and you’ll have to use google translate to understand it, that’s why the Rheingold ISTAD software is priceless when it comes to BMW diagnostics.
